This is pretty spot-on. Posted in honor of being one week away from turning 30!
welcome! first of all, i apologize that it took me so long to respond. i wanted to try to curate a good list for you, which required some time. secondly, i could wax poetic about the triangle all day long — there really is something for everyone around here! these are some of my favorite restaurants, watering holes, sights, and activities. there are a couple that i haven’t been to, but have only heard wonderful things about, so i included them. other locals, please add your two cents.
[i won’t add detail about all of these places, otherwise we’d be here all day. everything is linked though]
food/drink: jujube | 411 west | mediterranean deli | glass half full | milltown | crook’s corner | vimala’s curry blossom cafe | merritt’s store + grill | carrburritos | the crunkleton | allen & son bbq
sights/activities: ackland art museum | coker arboretum | flyleaf books | varsity and chelsea theaters | southern season cooking classes + events | shows at memorial hall and cat’s cradle | unc campus [i am most certainly biased, but the upper quads really can’t be beat in the spring + fall]
just outside: hillsborough is a quaint town and you can hike at occoneechee state natural area. saxapahaw is also an up + coming spot on the haw river — there are a couple restaurants, shows at the haw river ballroom, and kayaking/canoeing.
food/drink: mateo tapas | nana taco | old havana sandwich shop | vin rouge | 604 west village | lilly’s pizza | monuts donuts | scratch bakery | dos perros | guglhupf | bull city burger + brewery | kokyu food truck | the federal | tonali | alley twenty six | fullsteam brewery | triangle brewery | bar lusconi
sights/activities: carolina theater [hands down my favorite date night activity] | sarah p. duke gardens | nasher museum of art | eno river state park | farmers market + food trucks on saturday mornings | durham bulls baseball | american tobacco trail | durham performing arts center | museum of life + science
raleigh [my least explored of the three, so please add to my list, raleigh folks]
note that a lot of the museums have music, movies, etc, so do some exploring on their websites to find cool events. there is usually a lot going on in the summer.
welcome to the area + enjoy!
Reblogging for awesomeness.
Smoke & pickles sandwich: everything bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, pickled green tomatoes, capers, avocado, and herbs. It was like taking a bite out of a garden on a spring day! (at Monuts Donuts)
