Bits of Me
What I’m Reading: Life of Pi by Yann Martel.
Impressions: I can’t say that this book was for me. Maybe it was hyped to me so much that I expected it to be wonderful. I was surprised at the amount of build-up before the point where Pi finally ends up on a life boat with a tiger. I was confused as to who was telling the story in the future- a journalist or something?
Pros: It was interesting, and I wanted Pi to survive. There was some humor, which I appreciated. Also, I found the zoology aspects to be interesting and informative.
Cons: I quickly get bored with survivalist stories. It was a little gory for my tastes. I couldn’t figure out if the animals were real or symbolic, and I don’t like such ambiguous endings. If the animals were symbolic, was the tiger representative of God or Pi himself? I kind of feel like I missed something. Everyone talks about how deep this book is, but I was bored.
