What I’m Reading: Young House Love by Sherry and John Petersik
Impressions: Like most people, I love Young House Love, the blog. I was excited when my library’s copy of this book finally came in and devoured the whole thing in one evening. In short, there’s a whole lot of paint going on. For longtime blog readers you might not see anything too new, but there are a whole lot of fun-looking DIY projects that you can do in a day.
I really liked how Sherry and John’s likable voices came through on every page, and it was fun to identify certain lesser-seen parts of their house in photos. One thing I wondered, though, was if the book is going to seem dated in a couple of years- their colloquialisms combined with tips like “SPRAY PAINT ALL THE THINGS ORB!” might not stand the test of time the way the best design books do.
Verdict: I liked the book, but not as much as I like the big-picture I get from their blog. I was inspired, but maybe about as much as I would be from looking at Pinterest for a couple of hours. Definitely worth a peak, but save your money unless you simply want to show your support for the Petersiks.
